A Mass of Christian Burial for Carol A. Franks, 84, of Newark, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 28, 2023, with Fr. Mark Ghiloni as celebrant and Fr. Don Franks as concelebrant. Immediately following the Mass, the family will receive friends in the Blessed Sacrament Annex, 411 East Main Street, Newark. Inurnment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Carol died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Sunday, December 17, 2023. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 3, 1939, to the late Alfred F. and Mona J. (Ackley) Cherubini and was Baptized at St. John the Baptist.
A graduate of Blessed Sacrament Elementary and St. Francis de Sales High School, Class of 1957, Carol worked for the City of Newark Engineers Office prior to starting her family. Once her children were school aged, Carol worked at PNB, Elder Beerman, LMH, and eventually started an in-home daycare which she operated for over 25 years. She was a member of the Newark Women’s Business Sorority, lifelong member of the Democratic Party, and served many years as a Girl Scout Leader.
Carol, a woman of great faith, was a member of the Fruit of the Vine Prayer Group and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She relied heavily on her Catholic background and was greatly moved by her visit to Jordan.
She was committed to her family and took great pride in supporting them in every aspect of their lives. Her attendance at sporting events, school functions, and family celebrations were part of her daily routine. Her selfless dedication to the care of her husband during his sickness with ALS was a testament to this great devotion and her determination.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Tammy Wright-Harrmann (Tom Harrmann), Jane Pickering, Joyce Franks, and Bill (Joan) Franks; daughter-in-law, Laura Franks; grandchildren, Erin (Dillon) Lester, Sarah Wright, Ryan (Amber) Wright, Corey (Michelle) Harrmann, Abby Harrmann (Randy) Wells, Kelly Harrmann (AJ) Hurt, Tom (Jessica) Pickering, Andy Pickering, Jenny Pickering (Patrick Varnum), Nicole (Kyle) Girton, Scott (Abby) Vierstra, Jared Franks, Sean (Mary) Franks, Nicholas Franks (Maddie Harris), Emma Franks, Anthony “Bobby” Franks, Robby Franks, Abby (Jay) Doup, and Ashley Franks; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Charles Franks and Don Hill; sister-in-law, Laura Franks; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Franks Sr.; son, Robert L. Franks Jr.; son-in-law, Lee Wright; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Peggy Franks, Mary (Bill) Kelley, Rosemary Hill, Lawrence Franks, Joseph (Mary Eileen) Franks, and George (Connie) Franks.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Carol’s name be made to the St Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St Edward Catholic Church, 785 Newark Granville Road, Granville, Ohio 43023, or the Newark Catholic High School Foundation, 1 Green Wave Drive, Newark, Ohio 43055.
